The AxyScanner™ is a complete system for automated high-resolution, high-speed protein crystal imaging. The AxyScanner™ system consists of a compact scanner that produces high quality, high contrast images with proprietary software for critical analysis of sitting, hanging, or microbatch experiments. AxyScanner™’s accurate and user-friendly technology is designed to be an affordable solution to meet low- to high- thoughput academic or industrial crystallography imaging needs.

Benefits

  1. Focus Merging: The camera takes image “slices” at each of several levels within the depth of the sample drop. The software then merges these images together to give a “Total” image that is extremely high resolution and extremely high contrast. The 4.0 megapixel camera on its own gives great images…combine this unique feature with focus merging and AxyScanner™’s image quality is better than any scanner on the market currently. The number of slices can be adjusted to accommodate any size sample drop. The larger the drop, the more slices, and vice versa. The more slices, the better image resolution.
  2. Graphic Processing speed: AxyScanner™ processes its images on the Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) of the PC, as opposed to the Central Processing Unit (CPU). No other scanner has adopted this feature. Since the GPU is engineered specifically to process image data, and does nothing but process image data, it can do so at a much faster speed and with greater accuracy than the CPU. Consequently, the AxyScanner™ operates with an average image processing speed of 4 seconds. For example, for extremely high resolution images, one could set the unit to run at 20 “slices”; image processing speed would be roughly 8-10 seconds.
  3. Optics: AxyScanner™ features optics from one of the top manufactures of microscopes.
  4. Proprietary illumination system: AxyScanner™’s illumination is unique in the industry. It gives unmatched brightness (the brighter the light source, the better contrast and resolution) and an extremely long life (lower maintenance cost and less work). Greater brightness also reduces exposure time, reducing scan times, and protecting the sample.
  5. PC and monitor: All included with purchase of the AxyScanner™. A choice of monitors is offered; larger monitors will incur a higher cost.
  6. Plate orientation: Will be user-selectable as either landscape or portrait.
  7. Consumables: The AxyScanner™ is completely flexible in use of all manufacturers’ SBS standard crystallography plates.
